How can I add tags in this forum?

Hello,

I can “choose optional tags for this topic” but can’t create new ones?!

If I enter a tag in the space below, I can’t “save” them. So they get lost when I click out of the space.

There are only two tags at the moment (ldap, rest)

Greetings

I enabled tags and I thought that was good enough since I could create them. But maybe I can create them because I’m an admin  I’ll research this. If you know discourse and have the answer please let me know. Thanks

hmm just checked the tags settings in the admin and I don’t see an option for deciding who can create them. I’ve also impersonated you (nice feature! :)) and indeed I see that you cannot save tags. Continuing my research…

I tried to create new tags in https://forum.xwiki.org/t/trying-to-create-tags/97 and worked for me (and I’m not admin but I’m a moderator so maybe that’s it).

When you write your tag you see it in the the suggest, don’t forget to select it in the suggest or it does not work.

Haha alright, I was a little bit confused about “my” post.

Nice feature - I guess.

I can’t see the tags in the suggest so I can’t select them to make’em stay :fearful:

OK so I guess it’s indeed a right issue.

ok so I understand more now:

  • The default settings is that users need a trust level 3 to create tags
  • However they only need a trust level 0 to use existing tags

I’ve just tested with your user and you can use existing tags. You cannot create new ones yet because you need to build up trust first

What tag do you need exactly ?

Oh, so I’m not trustworthy enough :fearful:

How can I build up trust?

I guess this is a good feature to prevent “tag spam”… But right now it makes the tags really useless because only a handful of people has enough trust to create new tags and the other new member (like me, who came her from the mailing list) have to use the existing ones (which are right now 2 :see_no_evil: .

So since there are none - the topics right now won’t have tags or you (the ones with enough trust/rights) should tag the topics after the creation to create the tags for future Topics.

What tag do you need exactly ?

Well I wanted to tag something like “Document Tree Macro” so you can search for that in the forum and get this post as a result.

I’m usually doing this in our XWiki to add some usefull words which are not in the text itself so if someone searches for something like “left click won’t work” → he gets the result of an issue which could be connected…

It’s indeed not very handy right now.

We could do it the wiki way and let users create any tag they want and just cleanup tags list from time to time. WDYT @vmassol ?

I guess it would be a good way to let users create any tag they want and after a certain time (maybe when the forum has grown a bit) you get back the old “trust” concept which isn’t bad at all imho but isn’t really practical at the moment.

Yes, why not. In general I prefer to use the default settings on this type of things since they’ve probably thought about it a lot more than we did. However, since we can rename tags and since I’m currently watching the forum closely we can fix any mistake quickly.

However I’m still hesitating a bit. Another approach is to create as many tags as we have JIRA Components, using the same names. The advantage of this approach is consistency between tools. Because otherwise some users will create “Document Tree Macro”, others “doctreemacro”, and yet some others will use “index” since that’s what we use in JIRA (http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI/component/12040) since the doc tree macro is part of the Index module.

Well it’s not that simple. I’m not so sure that everything we discuss here is going to match a Jira component plus there is many Jira projects for contrib extensions and many more to come.

ok let’s try it. It’s probably going to be a mess as the tag cloud for extensions is on extensions.xwiki.org but we’ll see

Done. Users now need only a trust level 1 (the default) to create tags. Let’s monitor this.

Great, thank you!

I’ve tried to create the tag “Document Tree Macro” which doesn’t work. It transforms it into “documenttreemacro” so I guess there is a limitation of imagination for tags integrated

Let’s see how this will work out.

Thank you guys
