Migrating application-mentions from xwiki-contrib to xwiki-platform

Hello all,

Currently the development of the user mentions application is done on a dedicated git repository and is not installed by default on XWiki Standard.

I would like to have you opinion on two topics.

Moving to xwiki-platform

What do you think of moving the user mentions application from xwiki-contrib to xwiki-platform.

  • Pros:
    • Officially part of the platform.
  • Cons:
    • More PRs to deal with for the core team.

Mentions installed by default

What do you think of the user mentions application being bundled by default on XS 12.5?

  • Pros:
    • Better adoption and visibility
  • Cons:
    • Maintenance is now mandatory

+1 but I don’t know enough its state.

In any case we discussed having the Mentions feature finished for XWiki 12.6 final so if we want to achieve this we need to do the move + have it enabled in XS ASAP.
