Manual tests vs Automated tests analysis

Basically my POV we should have the max number of unit tests and the min number of functional tests because we won’t scale otherwise (we already don’t). It also makes it simpler and faster to debug.

So the goal with this strategy here for automated tests shouldn’t be about more functional tests, but as much as possible about much unit test, is that correct?
