We simplify the look of an annotation.
The comment will be updated to be cohesive with the new look.
#1 The profile picture is much smaller, focusing the attention on the text.
#2 We keep the date & time on the same line with the name of the user.
#3 We add a “x” icon to close the annotation in a easier way. Currently, the user has to click the annotation icon to close the annotation. Even if we go with this proposal, some users may not understand the idea of clicking on the annotation to close it.
#4 We add a “Mark as solved” button that when clicked turns an annotation into a simple comment.
“Mark as solved” is a common functionality in many popular software like Google Docs & Notion. Google Docs takes away the highlighting and checks the comment, literally marking it as solved. In Notion, when clicking the check icon, the annotation is completely deleted.
What do you think?
Note: the look of normal comments and comments with quotes/annotations will be tackled separately.
The only different I see between the two (aside from the fact that there is no point repeating the quoted text in the annotation view) is the fact that “View thread” does not have a number in the annotation view, but it’s not clear to me why.
It’s a good idea. Note that we don’t have this kind of metadata right now (unless I missed it) so it goes a bit beyond look update.
For me, the “mark as solved” feature (which doesn’t currently exist) should be for both comments and annotations and clicking it should hide the comment or annotation (with an option somewhere to delete hidden comments/annotations).
both comments and annotations should have a mark as solved functionality (new feature)
clicking the mark as solved button would hide the comment/annotation in a expandable section at the end of all comments (“See solved comments“).
I personally don’t think we should add deletion of all solved comments, as this should be part of a batch comments deletion proposal, but if we want to compromise we can still add a “Delete solved comments“ at the top of all comments sections.
Thanks a lot for inputs, I will mark as solved, but feel free to add more comments!
