Change Word Based Notifications name to Keyword Alert

Hi everyone,

a while ago I worked on an extension allowing to receive notifications when some followed expressions where used in pages of the wiki.

This extension is the current Word-Based Notifications Applications.

I never been a huge fan of this name (honestly I even don’t manage to remember it properly or I use shortcuts when I’m referring to it) and I recently received a feedback suggesting to rename it to “Keyword Alert”.

I believe it’s easier to remember, shorter, and it matches well with what the extension does. AFAICS there’s no real overlap with existing extension names: we do have an Alerts Application, but that’s it.

Also I don’t think that right now this extension is used a lot, so it might not be a huge problem to rename it.

Note that the proposal to rename is about:

  1. the name of the extension in the extension manager
  2. the name of the repository and jira project
  3. the translations
  4. the packages and classes

I’m +1 for 1/2/3. For 4, it would be breaking API but I don’t think it’s used anywhere so I’d be +0.

I’m opening this vote for 1 week until monday 9th of march.

+0

Hello, -0 on my side for “Keyword Alert”.

I feel that since this extension is sending notifications and not alerts, it would be better to have “Notification” in the extension name. Like “Keyword Notifications”.

Terminology reminder:

  • “Alert” is the content top menu with the bell icon.
  • It’s used by the “Notifications” extension to list notifications inside the alert menu but other extensions use the Alert menu to add other types of alerts (e.g. the XWiki SAS licensing extension).

Thx

-0 for keyword alert
+1 for keyword notifications
I’d even be +1 for keyword analyzer if we consider that the scope of the app could go beyond notifications alone in the future.
