Create new page - needing to save first, then enter data

Hi! I am sure this is a stupid question but I can’t seem to find an answer in the forum nor in the configuration - have I made a config error or is this is how Xwiki works / any workarounds?

We’ve migrated from Confluence, where my users were accustomed to creating a page and entering information in it, then saving. So they regularly complain about having to first click +Create, then remember to save&view, before going back to entering information. Several have lost hours of input work that way as +Create and inputting information is possible, but when you click save&view it reverts to the template.

Hi,

this is not the expected behaviour. In theory you create the page with a template, you should be able to input the information and then save them. So it sounds like a bug, do you use a custom template ?

No, we use either the default template or the article template as is. I can’t find any configuration that will enable users to input information at the same time as creating the page - I thought perhaps this was by database design “key must exist before data can be saved to key”.

Hi,

You didn’t mention what version of XWiki you’re using. I just tested on a clean XWiki 17.9, and I was able to create a page using the default Article template. I didn’t have the Save & View action because recent versions of XWiki have realtime enabled by default. So either you have an older version of XWiki or you have disabled realtime editing.

It would help to specify the exact steps your users take to reproduce the problem, so that we can try to reproduce it as well.

Did you mean the “Blank page” template? I tried with that as well and I didn’t notice any problem in creating a new page.

Thanks,
Marius
