Numbered Content has recently been introduced and covers the features of Numbered Reference Macro while adding some new features, for instance:
- it is not required to update the settings to load new filters, which make it easier to deploy
- the numbers are directly visible in CKEditor
In addition, both extension provides a reference macro and if both are installed at the same time this leads to undefined behaviors.
Note: Migrating to Numbered Content can require some migration effort since the data-xwiki-rendering-protected is currently only taken into account when applied directly on the numbered header (and no in their parents). This feature could be added but might lead to expected but un-intuitive numbering because of the way CSS numbering works.
Consequently, I propose to deprecate Numbered Reference Macro and more it to the attic.
