Errors while using Git API extension

Hi,

I’m trying to use the Git API extension. I have some GitHub wikis that I want to move to XWiki. First I tried using the Github API, but Github wikis are not reachable via the API. But Github wikis can be used as “normal” Git repositories. So I thought I could use the Git API extension to clone those wiki repos and then create Markdown XWiki pages for each Markdown file in the wiki repository.

So I thought it would be good to get started with one of the examples from the Github API extension documentation page. I skipped the Velocity examples, as I think I’ll be needing better scripting facilities, so I started with the Groovy examples.

While running Example 3, I get the following error:

Has anyone an idea how to fix this? Or is this a bug in the Git API module? Hope someone can help… If someone has an idea for another approach to import my Github wikis, those are more than welcome as well!

The reason is because the gitective dependency has been upgraded in GIT-4 (see https://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Git%20Module#Hv9.7) and it broke backward compatibility (because of JGit 2.0), see Remove CommitFinder.setMatcher · kevinsawicki/gitective@d12ac46 · GitHub

The XWiki Git API module is working fine. It’s just the example that needs to be modified to use the new APIs.

So the Git API actually exposes the Gitective API? I think it would be a good idea to mention that in the Git API module’s documentation. Unfortunately the Gitective documentation is pretty much non-existing, so that wouldn’t be very helpful…

On a side note: the README of Gitective states that it is no longer being maintained. The README itself seems outdated, since the example there also uses the setMatcher() method that’s no longer there.

Anyway, thanks for pointing me to that diff. It shows me that I should replace setMatcher() by setFilter().

That seems like a very good idea

We would love to see a GitHub to XWiki importer in the future

I’ve added the imports in the Script Service API that is documented, so that you can see the objects returned.

I find it quite ok, the only problem is that it’s also out of date WRT setMatcher(), see GitHub - fabric8io/gitective: Find the Git commits you're looking for

Sorry, I might have drawn my conclusions a bit too fast. Good to know that you’re using a maintained fork, a pity that even in the fork the documentation is outdated.

Sure, I want to update the docs if I figure out how to do it! Unfortunately I now stumble upon the next hurdle:

Any idea how I can fix this?

I don’t think I’ll have the time to write a full blown re-usable importer. However, I will share the code I write, so that it can be used to build upon by someone who does have the time.

Seems you’ve had some problems with the git clone. You could remove the git directory from your xwiki permanent directory for ex.

I use an xwiki.com hosted XWiki. I think I don’t have access to that directory…

I used the JGit API to create a script to import Github wikis: https://snippets.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Github%20wiki%20import/

I’ve updated https://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/GoogleSummerOfCode/GitHubImporter with a link to your snippet. Will be very useful for any GSOC student taking up this project. So you have done the POC. The next step is to transform that into Java Component implementing the Filter Appication.
