How to enter comfortable a soft hyphen

With
{{html}}{{/html}}
it is possible to enter a soft hyphen.
Fortunately, the full-text indexing is carried out correctly. The PDF export also works as desired.

I am looking for a more comfortable way to enter this UTF8 character (Unicode Character ‘SOFT HYPHEN’ (U+00AD)) in the editor.

Well this depends more on your keyboard and system than XWiki since you can simply enter the actual characters from XWiki/browser point of view.

For example for Mac: https://apple.stackexchange.com/a/293124

Okay - there are a lot of complications to enter a soft hyphen with a ALT and the following decimal or hex codes as some ALT + key combinations trigger browser or editor functions.
Using the paste buffer you can enter the soft hyphen.

The editor has a problem when started in WYSIWYG:
The soft hyphen characters are not displayed, even if you enter the source mode.
In WYSIWYG mode a hyphenation will be executed if needed.

If you open the editor in WIKI mode, the soft hyphens are shown as red dots. That is fine.

I would like two improvements:

  • displaying of soft hyphens in source mode
  • some kind of “insert soft hyphen” like “insert special characters”
