Interest in a Statistics Application in XWiki Standard

Hi everyone!!

There seems to be some interest in the community about having some wiki usage statistics inside XWiki. I’ve seen an answer on the XWiki Product Feedback page (year 2026) requesting “an easy way for the user to see a list of pages that have been recently viewed”, and there was also a post on the forum about having a statistics extension in XWiki.
There used to be a Statistics Application bundled in XWiki, but that’s not the case anymore since XWiki 8.0. Instead, users are encouraged to use the Matomo Integration, which IMO is a great extension, but it does require setting up a Matomo server, which for some users may be too much friction.

In this context, I’m opening this thread to gather interest, feedback, and feature ideas about having a statistics extension in XWiki, that doesn’t depend on external servers.

Please note that this thread is only for brainstorming and that nobody is committing to building anything at this time.

Thx @gabrielc

There was some start of a discussion in the following thread: Move xwiki-platform-statistics to XWiki Attic - #19 by vmassol

Some thoughts:

  • Interesting to have such a feature but not a priority (since we have the Matomo solution)
  • We’d need a scalable design
  • Using the event stream is interesting but I don’t know how scalable it would be (for ex if we send a View event for each page being viewed).

Thanks
