Caty had created https://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/UserExperience/ some while ago. I’ve just updated it as it was still referring to the old mailing lists. I don’t remember if there was a proposal to use it or not but this post is about deciding to use it or to continue to use it.
Right now we have no ux label in jira.xwiki.org so I propose to move from “not recommended” to “deprecated”/“do not use”. I also propose to update the page to remove the “keywords” mentions as this looks old and is making the page more confusing than it could IMO.
Also, the page says that accessibility is deprecated but it’s failing to mention that we’ve replaced it with wcag so I’m proposing to update that too.
Is the proposal to replace ux with usability? I mean, there are no usages of the label ux, so what I mean is that usability should be used in these cases where the page currently proposed to use ux? (And the ux and its description which includes rather soft terms like “behaviours, attitudes, and emotions” are dropped, as that is highly subjective and “ease of use” is a somewhat better term).
Yes, it was already suggested to use usability and not ux. Indeed, the proposal is to indicate clearly to not use the ux term and that it’s been deprecated. I think it still makes sense to describe UX (the whole page is about UX) but that it’s a superset of the other terms (this is already indicated) and thus we’re using the other labels. And yes, I’d remove the following part, which is confusing:
* User experience (UX) involves a person's behaviours, attitudes, and emotions about using a particular product, system or service.
* Label: 'ux' (not recommended) - is the user not having a great/delightful experience using the product?
* Keyword: ux (deprecated)
