On-premises option for Cristal?

Hi there,

We’re eagerly following along with the Cristal developments (very exciting!) and are wondering if there will be an on-premise version? I saw that this is an XWiki SAS project and was also wondering if this means this will be a ‘pro’ product / something we could add on to our current XWiki instance.

Apologies if I missed this somewhere in the documentation!

Thanks for giving a look at Cristal.

  • we plan to have Cristal as an alternative front-end for XWiki instances, so installable on both on-premise and cloud XWiki instances
  • we also plan to have Cristal running independently of XWIki, connected to other backends (e.g., a local folder, or a Nextcloud directory)

This is too early to discuss ‘pro’ features, but we’ll keep the community updated if such decision was to be considered in the future.

What’s sure is that the idea, if all goes well, is to ultimately have Cristal be embedded in XWiki, replacing the current UI. Thus, it’ll remain open source and free as XWiki is today. It’s being developed under the LGPL 2.1 license. We could imagine some paying extensions in the future, similar to paying extensions for XWiki.
