Possibility of having a public sub-wiki while main wiki is private, and VPN issues

Hi! I would like to ask the following (related) questions.

  1. Is it possible for a sub-wiki to be public (no log-in needed) while the main wiki is private (log-in needed)?

  2. Our wiki instance can be access via VPN. If creating a public sub-wiki is possible, is there a way for it to have different settings and be available without VPN (while the main wiki and other sub-wikis are still accessible via vpn)?

  3. If none of these work, I am looking for recommendations on how to approach this. We want to have a sub-wiki that can be accessed by clients without having to log-in and without VPN.

Thanks in advance!

Yes.

This does not really have much to do with XWiki.

@tmortagne Thanks for your reply!

Do you know which settings should be used or how to make it work? I tried to create a new sub-wiki with the following parameters but it didn’t work as I tried to open the URL in incognito but it still prompted the login window…

Creating the Wiki

  1. Both global and local users are available in this wiki
  2. Only an Admin can send Invitations in this wiki

Once the wiki was created, I went to Administer Wiki → Users & Rights → Rights and I did it like this:

[ ] Prevent unregistered users from viewing pages, regardless of the page rights
[] Prevent unregistered users from editing pages, regardless of the page rights
[] Require unregistered users to solve a CAPTCHA when posting a comment on a page

I would really appreciate your response on this. Thank you!

Those options are more of a last resort, and the point is more to make sure to block specific actions whatever is the right setup of each page than to give access. I assume you made unregistered user not allowed to view on main wiki and by default subwikis inherit main wiki right setup, so you should look at the actual rights setup above and give “Unregistered Users” view right.

I figured as much too. I overlooked the unregistered users part and I only enabled the “View”.

Thanks so much!
