Apparently there is an omission in the Xwiki Debian package setup scripts. The DB parameters can be configured using Debian dbconfig. If an alternative DB name is chosen, the hibernate configuration is adjusted correctly, but the DB name contained in xwiki.cfg (Parameter xwiki.db=<DBNAME>) is not adjusted, leading to a non-working installation until this is fixed manually.
I wanted to report this issue to the Xwiki JIRA, but was not able to locate the proper component to file it on… :-/ There are specific components for the Docker images, but there doesn’t seem to be a corresponding one for the Debian packages.
