Reording Navigation Panel Entries

While I understand that the default ordering is alpha, this becomes restrictive in naming pages. The majority of manuals developed do not follow an alpha order for naming sections, pages and child pages. Under Look and Feel > Navigation Panel you already allow a user to re-order pages. What would it take to save the re-order and present it?

I see that you have a Jira ticket, XWIKI-16453, established but it looks to be nearly two years old.

Having this ability to explicitly order pages is really needed.

Thank You In Advance…

I have a solution for this problem of mixing automatic (alphabetical) sorting with manual sorting (“pinned pages”) but I need to find the time to make a proposal so that it gets discussed and voted and then it needs to be put on the roadmap. Unfortunately ATM there are other features that have higher priority over XWIKI-16453 (such as finishing the new Live Data component, integrating real-time editing in the standard product, etc.) so I don’t think Navigation Panel reordering will be implemented on the short term, unless someone wants it so bad that it pays / sponsors it (my estimation is that it takes at least 5 days to do it properly).

Marius, thank you for responding.

I have been in the process of reviewing server alternatives for Atlassian Confluence Server Edition. As you are most likely aware, this application has been discontinued which leaves those who wish to maintain content on their own servers for security reasons in a bit of a scramble. Including some of my clients. Given the current versions of the various wiki applications, XWiki, in my opinion, is the solution that best fits as a replacement for content development. Both server and, alternatively, your cloud hosting option.

The two issues I brought up are not show stoppers. For alpha sorting, I have found a work around that actually resolves a portion of this issue. As for the gallery or light box macro options, I will take a look at those. Those options sound like a good alternative.

Please know that my firm will be adding XWiki to its recommendation list in the coming days.

Thank You!
