Rephrase a vote rule regarding committers' duty to vote

Hi everyone,

we were just discussing on the chat about a rule related to the vote for committers, written in https://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Community/Committership#HVoting it currently says:

Committers must vote as part of their duties

My interpretation when reading this sentence is that all committers must vote to all votes.

But in reality we see that it’s not the case, for different reasons one of them being just that sometime’s we’re not available when a vote is opened. But also because there is a lot of different subject for which we open votes and sometimes we forget or we don’t have opinion.

My feeling on the subject is that the spirit of this rule is to ensure that committers are participating in general to the votes that are opened, even if they don’t answer to absolutely every vote.

So I would rephrase it like this:

Committers have a duty to participate to votes: it’s not mandatory to answer to all votes, but they should participate to vote as much as possible.

WDYT?

I don’t read it as strict, because I find it impossible to participate in all votes / discussions, but I’m fine to rephrase it. So +1.

Thanks,
Marius

+1 as well to disambiguate

It’s not a vote so I won’t vote. I’m fine to rephrase it. I’m not convinced it was needed but it’s not much. I’d have added that if you don’t vote then you can’t complain afterwards, as an incitation to vote.
