I am looking to upgrade my XWiki from 10.11.9 to the current LTS 13.10.5. I have a couple questions… Our current wiki also has 13 wikis on the farm as well.
If I upgrade the main wiki do I also have to upgrade the wikis on the farm separately or will they automatically update as well?
Do I have to do intermittent updates for can I upgrade straight to the latest version?
The machine the wiki is hosted on is Ubuntu 16.04, so I will also be upgrading to 18.04 and potentially 20.04 (if it allows me to), will this help in the upgrade process of the wiki in any way?
The Distribution Wizard will appear for all subwikis that need upgrading, when you access them the first time with an admin user (users who are not admin will be served the pages before the upgrade, most will work but it’s possible that some won’t since they’ve not been upgraded). So, if you want to be sure the upgrade is fully done, you need to log in, as an admin, on all subwikis and follow the wizard.
No. However, you should read the release notes for all versions in between (major versions, not bug fixes) and make sure there are no manual operations to perform (we try to avoid this and it’s quite rare but sometimes it happens). See https://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/ReleaseNotes/ for all release notes.
It depends if you are using the XWiki Debian packages or not. If you don’t upgrade Ubuntu before upgrading XWiki the package might refuse to install because of the version of the dependencies (for example it requires a version of MySQL more recent than what you have in Ubuntu 16.04).
In any case, if you plan to upgrade Ubuntu I would recommend to do it before you upgrade XWiki.
