I need to ugprade an ancient installation of Xwiki (Xwiki 3 on Ubuntu 10.04) to the latest version. I unfortunately cannot export the content as xar archive because the wiki is pretty big and the download from the website fails.
What are my options? I guess I’m looking at exporting and importing the database and trying to reimport it on Xwiki 14.
That’s also not the recommended way to upgrade.
Ideally, you should only replace the XWiki WAR files and let XWiki migrate the database and the permanence directory.
Of course given the gap I guess you also need to upgrade the Java version to 11 and maybe the applications server to a newer version.
Staying on Ubuntu 10.04 is also not a great idea, but it’s not clear to me if you plan to upgrade the system or move to an entirely new server. In any case, the ideal is to be in a situation where you have XWiki 3 with around it an environment suited for XWiki 14 (XWiki 3 probably won’t run on Java 11 but what’s important is that you don’t touch the date in the database and permanent directory and let XWiki take care of it), and then you do the standard upgrade.
