Using REST APIs to Connect XWiki With External Membership Systems

Hi everyone,

I’m exploring ways to connect XWiki with external membership systems, particularly for organizations such as museums that already use XWiki for documentation, internal knowledge bases, or operational workflows.

One interesting approach seems to be using the XWiki REST API to synchronize selected membership data with an external CRM or membership platform. For example, a workflow could look something like this:

  1. A membership record is created or updated in the external system.
  2. The membership status or relevant member information is synchronized with XWiki through the API.
  3. XWiki can then be used to provide staff with the latest membership-related information alongside their internal documentation.
  4. When a membership is renewed or expires, the updated status can be reflected in the connected workflow.

For museums, this could also be useful when working with digital membership cards. A platform such as MembershipAnywhere can manage digital membership card and membership data, while XWiki could remain the internal knowledge and documentation layer.

I’m particularly interested in how others are handling authentication, API permissions, webhooks, and keeping data synchronized without creating unnecessary API requests.

Has anyone here implemented a similar XWiki integration with an external CRM, membership system, or other SaaS platform?

Helloo!! I feel like this is a really interesting topic!

Unfortunately I don’t know of any public projects/extensions doing this, but there is a SKILL file in the xwiki-dev-llm repo that deals with the REST API. Maybe that would be somewhat helpful?

There is also the REST API documentation, but it’s quite large, and hard to parse IMO.

If you end up creating something that could be shared publicly, please share! I’d love to take a look!
