Hello, fellow XWiki community members!
This year, XWiki is planning to participate once more at Google’s Summer of Code.
The organization registration period will start on Monday, February 7 - 18:00 UTC, and the deadline is February 21 - 18:00 UTC (in ~2.5 weeks).
- We need to provide by then a list of proposals and assign mentors that are willing to guide the GSoC Contributors that are going to implement them.
I would like to ask everybody that wants to participate as a mentor (and is eligible) for the XWiki organization to review the proposals list (currently just 1 proposal) and add as many interesting proposals as possible.
The proposals can be either new, or they can be revived from previous years. Just navigate to the previous years, find the proposal you like and know about, go to its proposal page (click it) and press the “Clone to this year” link. Now you can assign yourself as lead for that project, update it’s description if needed and wait for the Contributors applications to start pouring
- If you feel that you would like to help on improving XWiki’s GSoC guides and application forms, please find guidelines for GSoC Contributors on XWiki’s GSoC page, the Contributor application form and the lessons learned from the previous years.
Important changes to the program in 2022
Google announced new changes in this year’s program, the main points being:
- Expanding eligibility: No longer focused on students. Anyone can apply. They are now referred to as “GSoC Contributors” instead of “GSoC Students”.
- Multiple Sizes of Projects: 2 types of project sizes: medium (~175 hours) and large (~350 hours).
- Increased Flexibility of Timing for Projects: Project work period agreed with Contributor and can be increased from the standard 12 weeks up to a max of 22 weeks.
When proposing a new project, please make sure to include the project size, using the Estimated workload
field and using as value either 175 hours
or 350 hours
.
Thanks for your help,
Eduard
