Just to be clear (in case it wasn’t in my comments above), my POV:
- We shouldn’t develop a new onboarding app. We should instead use the existing DW and refactor it (new screens, make it extensible, improve the L&F, make it appear in more cases than just once for Admins at install or upgrades). We could decide to rename it if the name is a problem.
- The rationale is that we should have to maintain two apps that do something very similar.
- We should drop the Tour. It’s way too confusing and complex to maintain to have 2 onboarding solutions. Also the premise of Adina’s proposal is that the Tour is not the right solution so I wouldn’t keep it.
- Regarding Release Notes, I think I’d prefer to use the Notifications area and have 1 notification after each upgrade, with a link to the RN page on xwiki.org. That’s simpler to implement and less intrusive than including that in the DW.
- We need a better definition of all the various onboarding flows we’d like to have, using the DW.
- For Admins, we could also consider a DW step suggesting some most used extensions.
- For Admins, we could also have a DW step to define the main config parameters of XWiki (such as the Hibernate configuration).See Loading...
- More generally check Loading... for DW improvements that could be needed in the context of onboarding.
Thanks
