If XWiki is going to go with Slides as the main onboarding method, I don’t think the Tour App will be necessary. Maybe it could remain bundled as to not break custom workflows created by users (would that happen if the Tour app were to not be bundled anymore?), but it shouldn’t offer an active tour out-of-the-box.
Adding to Thiago’s proposal, I’d like to also suggest the following:
Proposal 08: Checklist App
The Checklist App would be an addition to the Slides onboarding.
The goal of the Checklist App would be to prompt the user to take actions during the onboarding process.
It would live in the bottom right section of the screen (where the “Show tour” button currently is). It would be open by default, to draw attention to itself, but the user would be able to collapse it, so it wouldn’t take up space if it isn’t actively used.
The Checklist App would contain actionable tasks (e.g.: “create a page”, “create a template” etc.). These tasks would automatically check themselves when the user does the certain action described in the task.
I’m attaching the following image of a similar feature from a competitor, to help visualize how it would work:
Note: When the proposals are concluded, a team from within XWiki SAS could take care of the development for both the Slides Onboarding App & Checklist Onboarding App.
